Save Our Darts

With over 500 signings so far, here is the current list of our supporters and some of their comments:

Mike BergFrom a Yank: Please save the darts! A pub is darts and a pint. I want both when I visit England.
Anonymouskeep the darts wahoooo!
Neil GreenwoodBritish pubs are loosing a lot of traditions at the moment and are becomming less iconic. We have to keep some traditions If not then we lose our identity. Sounds a bit much but a tradtion is a tradtion.

Anonymousmany of the problems of the world have been sorted out during a game of darts!
AnonymousI play darts regularly, both at home and in the pub. It's a great social event and if it was taken away from us it would make me, and those I play with, very upset and we'd get severe withdrawal symptoms.
chris robertsonjust could not find a pub with a dartboard last night out on the town and me and my mates were gutted

MICHAEL MORANIt would be a crying shame for the game of darts to fizzle out in pubs its a fantastic game and social event enjoyed by young and old. "Well done " for this campaign we need another Phil Taylor so come on you youngn's get playing
Luke ScullyI've been playing darts from age 12 now 18, everytime i go to a pub i expect entertainment there never is any thesedays not even a dartboard!! The only time i get to do is at my own house,im also struggle to finding a decent darts teams around my area, again if they have a dartbaord, SAVE THE DARTS!! com on john part!!

DARREN WESTDARTS IS PART OF ENGLANDS HERITAGE AND MOST PROFESIONALS STARTED IN PUBS,I BELIVE THE DECLINE OF DARTS IN PUBS WILL STOP YOUNG BRITISH PLAYERS COMING THROUGH IN LATER YEARS, AND WITH HOLLANDS YOUTH BEING SO GOOD ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL WE LOSE THE CROWN AS THE COUNTRY FOR DARTS.

AnonymousDarts is great people should keep the fantastic sport up and never let it go!!
Gordon Ferguson
Nicholas McAtamneyNot only should this simply magnificent and inclusive sport be available in pubs but it should be in schools, youth clubs, nursing homes, leisure centres, day centres etc. It is time for tungsten gladiators everywhere to stand shoulder to shoulder on this issue.
Dave Blount
Mark LamoureauxThe more dartboards the better- pubs in my area set up special events for darters on slow nights and it helps their business and also allows the sport to grow here in the U.S. - I wanted to fire up a game at the Rose and Crown in Disney World- more boards please
AnonymousAll young people should have a go at the game, as you might be the next Phil "The Power" Taylor.

AnonymousPubs are a great social institution - if people could refrain from eating for 5 minutes and interact with each other than maybe we might find something to do apart from staring at screens. Save our pubs!

Marlo MontanaroDarts RULES! It should be a requirement for a pub to hang a dart board.
Dan Little
dean constantinedarts is a part of british pub culture, and the professional game is quickly becoming big news. Young British players need the facilities to progress, and those of us who aren't so good need a place to have a few beers and enjoy a good old fashioned game of darts. Get more boards in pubs.
Steven FerrieThere is hardly any pubs in Scotland/Dundee with Boards.
Gary TaylorDarts is a sport..... and should be kept that way
Ed MillerEvery pub in Britain should have a dart board,it's one of the most fun sociable games out there!

david bedlowGastropubs are soulless holes devoid of regular characters.Get rid of them and save our PUBS as well as our darts
AnonymousI work in central London and often try to play darts at the only pub I know with a board. Often, we can't due to the pub 'getting too busy' and over meal times. I wish there were dartboards in pubs in central London!
Gray DaleIts a disgrace, get the dart boards back in pubs, darts and a decent pint are what makes England great !

Brent LyonI don't even like entering a pub that doesn't have a board.
J GillionsStop the darts demise!
Lee Kalaker
Tim JohnWomen find dart players extremely attractive. Fact.
Peter NelsonDarts is a British institution. Most people have played it at so time in a British pub. Running teams can generate more money than selling food. I have introduced 4 teams to a pub in Aldgate which kept it open during the winter, either side of Christmas.
nathan hearn
mike pearcethe game should never leave our locals!!! im 22 now and ive been playing since i could pick up a set of darts!. i play for my local team and have done for about 3 years and love it. also last year i had a chance to play andy fordham in an exhibition match and it was a great nite. keep fighting your doing a great job.!!!!!!!
Andy PageSave our darts - its one of the greatest sports in the world
Nicola Chapman
Alan OliverDarts is a national institution and to lose it would be a crime.Having played in a local league, more must be done to encourage people to take up or return to the sport that offers so much.
Paul BakerMassive darts fan, own a dartboard in my room and it gets a lot of use from friends and family who come round to just play it. It's also a great pub game that's much cheaper and more fun than playing pool or the itbox. SAVE OUR DARTS!!!
Alan BrittonGo to your nearest "Gastro-pub", clear a few tables and hang your own dart board. Then hold an impromptu 'in house' darts comp. Help keep darts alive!
sarahi like playing darts, im no good but i like playing it. we need to keep the darts going so we can have fun whilst we are drinking!!! plus my bf loves darts and we want to go to lakeside to watch it next year. LONG LIVE THE DART BOARD!!!

sean dentondarts is a great sport and i love playing in pubs
terry nutkins
Dan BlackettI don't know a single decent pub in my town with a dart board. The places that have one have barmaids sporting black eyes and regulars with their own name tattooed on their arm. Frankly I don't want to play darts in places where my trainers get nicked from my feet in the time it's taken to walk through the front door and get to the bar.
tim starkeybring back darts to our pubs
Ross Carrdarts is the only thing i have we need to save it and in my community i have got all of my freinds interested into darts and we are currentley trying to persuade teachers in school to set up a school darts tournament

kevin morris4000 fans, sold out in advance, scramble for tickets weekly watching the pdc premier league at venues throughout the UK. Are they wrong?! Get the boards back in the pubs and clubs - let's play darts!
Benjamin VowlesI play darts at university and we have recently started a new darts club which attracted 69 members in it's first 6 months!! I am sure this enthusiasm for darts can be captured all over the country if facilities are provided.Lets, Play, Darts!

Roger HuntI live just outside Edinburgh and can't recall the last time I saw a dartboard in a pub. I have one in the garage and have the occassional throw but it's sad to see these gastro 'pubs' taking over to the decline of true pub entertainment.

Detlef GreinOn one of my visitis to the UK a long time ago I discovered Darts as my game, as my sport.Because of Darts I found a lot of friends in the UK, in the Netherlands, in Switzerland.....Darts helped me learning English because I've made so many English speaking friends.Because of Darts I found a great charity. Now I'm one of their ambassadors and I'm proud of it.No it's time to support this fantastic sport and this is what I want to do, e.g. with signing this petition. A holiday in the UK without a game of Darts would be like seeing the cars in the UK driving on the right hand side.

Anonymousit is a sad state of affairs to see the decline of pub darts as more dart boards are removed when refurbishments are carried out.my theory is that breweries do not make enough money from darts as opposed to a pool table which requires payment.

chris clementsi love the game of darts but now so many pubs have eithier pool tabels or tables for food over the throw so you cant get a game. its also a great night out meeting different people and having a laugh during the regular pub darts season.

NICHOLAS MARTINWithout this great traditional British social sport, there will be an important part of our culture gone forever and that would be tragic. I thought the current Governement were trying to encourage the spread of the sport amongst the young, especially with the positive maths element but like most things, they talk without action!

All around my area local pubs have been slowly getting rid of the boards including a pub i used to play for on tuesday evenings & turning them into restaurant/pubs. I would love to see pubs bringing back the boards. Theres nothing better than having a few beers with your mates & a game of darts too.

Tom BysouthThe provision of dart boards in Leeds city centre is pathetic. Of the two dart boards I have found one is hung about half a foot to low and the other oneyou cannot stand the required distance away.
jeffi stopped playing darts for 18 years because of family commitments but ive just come back last year to play and won the local leauge with the team i play in and its great to be back if it wasnt for dartboards being in the pub i would never go into one as i hate the new plastic pubs all frills but no heart

Anonymousboth my boy's play darts at home, but the pubs are not willing to let youth teams in to play in competitions(if you can find a youth team). we have tried but it seems to be down to licencing law's. so where are the next generation of players going to come from? look at the dutch!

AnonymousIm 18 years old.. and i have been playing darts for 3 years.. in that time, i have played youth superleague and youth county.. and it is nice to see how much the game has grown in such a short space of time.. and it is nice to see the number of youth dart players increase.. without darts in pubs.. the number of players will soon decrease.. untill darts is no more... which would be a massive shame..
Chris WardAbout time the lack of dart boards in pubs was addressed, the pubs local to me that do have boards tend to have extremely poor ones, we need to follow Holland and Germany's example and have dart bars, get boards into cafe's and coffee shops as well otherwise we'll never produce another world Champion as dominant as Phil.www.philtaylorfans.com
Hywel MorganThe best British tradition slowly being eroded by commerce. Pubs need darts!
DAMIAN GARNERI am an absolute mad darts fan, my mum taught me in her local pub, but I have too noticed the decline of the dart board in our pubs. I am having to resort to buying one and placing it in the bedroom, to my wife's displeasure (although she's a huge fan of the game). Please for the love of darts BRING BACK THE DART BOARD TO OUR LOCAL PUBS!
anthony ryderwhat did i do be for i started watching and playing darts
erik jellemaDarts is such a great sport , here in holland we have in all pubs a dartboard an play competition on tuesday:) i can't believe in england home of darts, its no longer usual that there is a dartsboard in the pub !!
Ginny Haylett
john hibberti agree lets get darts back into all pubs/clubs but dont let them put in electronic pay and play original bristle the only way
Jason TurveySadly the demise of the dartboard as a feature in our local pub has coincided with the demise of the traditional local pub. 'Gastropubs', which make more money from food than alcohol and pubs turned into 'clubby' pubs for a younger market have squeezed out the dartboard (and the space they need).Thank goodness for shops like Argos that have sold darts and dartboards for the home for many years, but the pub is where the dartboard truly belongs!
Simon Hicks

Owen WaltersThe rise of the gastropub is a disaster for darts as a whole. I feel that darts is a fantastic way to meet new people & it would be a disaster if many more pubs went this way!!I love the sport as it has brought me much enjoyment over the past 18 years.

Every sport needs a new generation of players coming through other wise that sport will cease to exist, which is why the access to boards in local pubs is a vital part of keeping darts at the for front of British sport. Which other sport can this nation say that it dominates?

Lee GriffinI Love darts and have a board recently put up in my living room. This is because i have no practice partner and have found it near on inpossible to get involved. I have even emailed Martin Wolfie Adams (he lives in my area) but no reply. If i have found it so hard to get involved it is a huge job to get it back to grass roots level. Can anybody help me get involved?

raymond owenthis is good news indeed you go to most towns these days and they are these awful themed pubs, yuck, and if there is a dartboard, it is in a dusty corner out of the way and the board is like a rock but these same pubs make room for a pool table where they can make money, we play our darts on monday nights , our other hatred are sky tv , there's always a footie match on as we are trying to play, who in the hell wants to see dagenham & REDBRIDGE, ban footie from our pubs, if you want to watch footie go to the game or watch it at home pls

Carl Indest-USAIn 1987 a bartender at Harry's Place asked me if I wanted to throw a game of darts. I said yes, and have not ceased playing for over 20 years. It is a sport of friends and famliy, and is very competetive at all levels. It is an easy game to fall in love with as I have, and most of my close friends. And there is no discrimination in darts-no color/etnic barriers, no gender barriers, and no monetary barriers. It is a game of fun, and will always be that way. And this is unlike most sports.

Pieter JenniskensHere from the Netherlands i also sign the petition, because i think darts is the sports game from England and this should always be like that. I see in the Netherlans that darts is veru popular and we have got a lot of competions and events, also for the beginner. Many talents have come forward from this the last past years and there are many to come. Richard GreenIt is harder and harder to find a pub with a dart board. The problem is most landlords are only interested in profits. Dart boards don't charge per game (thankfully) but a pool table gets an extra quid every 5 minutes or so. There are too many soul less food pubs around now and not enough proper 'locals'.

John ParrackDartboards in pubs are a valuable asset to todays society. Not only does it give everyone the opportunity to play a sport enjoyed by many thousands across the globe, but opens up a way of making new friends and opening up parts of the brain that sometimes doesn't get used due to the technology currently in use around the world. laptops, barcodes, calculators etc...proves maths can stil be done by brain alone!
DanovicGet more boards up now. I love a game of arrows down our local on a monday night. Up the Rockets!!!
Andrew hurstOne love, Darts!
Ashley PowellI have also noticed the rapid decline in pubs not having a dart board, I am TRYING to constuct a darts team within my local, however, the lack of interest is ever worrying. I have the full backing from the Landlords, but trying to increase the sport itself is troubling. I've even mentioned 24 hour darts competitions or something, but as of yet nothing has been arranged. If anyone has any suggestions then please let me know. The other problem is there aren't many leagues in which the team once evolved could join, as the Tuesday one doesn't end till August 2007, my players will not remain interested till then. Ashley(Stoke-on-Trent)
Jonathan SymesWhat would we do without darts? Christmas and New Year would never be the same without the World Championship - and I would be at a loss on a monday night without my regular appearances for the Red Lion Rockets!

Spenser NeillyI enjoy a game of darts whenever I get the chance, even got a board set up in the office, but whenever you go to a pub now its loud music, food, fruit machines and pool tables. Pool is OK but lets keep the dartboard alive and kicking! Its a British passtime that should last forever!!!
FoxyWhen you find a board, take the kids with you. I did a few years ago & now they play in our local league, which I am secretary of. If young uns dont get to play the game it will be pretty pointless putting boards up in the in the first place as they wont know what the game is all about.
glen lomasi run a village pub in norton canes cannock i currently have 4 mens teams and 1 womens team if i did not have these teams at least 2 nights in the week my pub would be virtually empty.i support them by providing free food at the end of the game, and providing the raffle prizes so they can get the funds to pay the league fees.to me these teams are away of keeping my pub afloat ,it is not just the food led pubs that are a threat to game it is also the greed of the big pub groups who tie so many pubs to there beer prices.
Kev PethickI have played darts since i was thirteen, its a fantastic community game that should not be replaced by fancy menu's and awful modern art!!!!!
kevin j lillyI have been playing darts now for fortytwo years and have found a great many freinds in the game.It is also a great social occassion so should be encouraged.

Tom GammonsRecently discovered the sport properly through some friends who seemed to be spending an increasing amount of time at the oche instead of the bar! This activity needs to be encouraged, if only to allow sedentary, exertion-shy drinkers like me to claim that they enjoy "sport".

AnonymousHave been playing darts regularly for over 30 years but am really dismayed at the lack of dart boards in pubs. It has got to be one of the cheapest games to stage in a pub (both for the player and the landlord), doesn't take up too much space and is actually educational (especially for the younger people).
AnonymousI am 59 years old and have started playing again after a 25 year break and the skill is comming back. I would like to see dartboards in more pubs and the old Piano to make an appearance, the pub is nothing like it was years ago. The way the pubs look now is Doormen, Drugs. 2 Dinners for the price of one, overpriced drinks and loads of kids who after one drink think they can fight the world. Ohhhhhhhhhh for the old times.

Keith HicklingThis campaign has got to succeed. I play in the South Notts League and i have seen membership dwindle to just nine teams. When i first joined in 1984 there were 34. More power to you
Toby BrookIf darts disappears what will happend next? A smoking ban???
dean turnerI used to play dartts three times a week, im down to once a week now, pool tables are to blame. im the assistant manager of a pub, and we have 2 dart boards in a small pub. WE WILL ALWAYS PLAY THE POWERS GAME
